OCU warns: Vodafone raises prices of its fees to make up its investment in football

23 feb. 2016

The scenario of rate increases initiated by Movistar, as usual, has today a new milestone: Vodafone's decision to raise the price of their fees to offset the cost of negotiations soccer. After rising 3 euros of convergent products (combined line and mobile) Movistar and Orange, now Vodafone who announced a further rise in rates

OCU expected price increases due to mergers we have experienced in recent years; as the disappearance of ONO, held by Vodafone and Jazztel now in the hands of Orange. All these changes in the number of companies in the market made anticipate a scenario of price increases that went really being fulfilled.

OCU believes that, as happened with the previous ones, these increases will be sweetened with small bonuses that few of their customers have demanded. The reality is that these decisions by the companies of telecommunications bill is increasing and it is consumers will pay more for those who contracted rates at the time. In this case the increase is imposed on him because they are not the ones who make the decision to choose products with more services and faster navigation.

This outlook is bleak for the consumer. These important mergers have been made with the sole consideration of the obligation to Orange to get rid of part of the network which was acquired by Másmovil and will soon begin offering their services. But he did not have at the moment with television you will be hard pressed to offer a full battle with other existing companies.

Finally OCU is concerned about these ups and asks the CNMC to watch the level of competition in the telecommunications market to prevent consumers from being affected by the concentration process that has occurred in the sector.
