OCU considered inadmissible pressure from the Ministry of Industry VW

14 abr. 2016

The newspaper “El Español” made public yesterday some letters exchanged, following the discovery of the scandal "dieselgate" between Vice President Purchasing worldwide and member of the board of directors Volkswagen group, Francisco García Sanz and Industry Minister J. M Soria. In that correspondence from the German multinational was pressed using existing investments in Spain as currency to demand the withdrawal of precautionary measures against the affected vehicles. Such precautionary measures set limits on the sale of vehicles with engine "souped-up" in Spain, as a result of the information available following a complaint from the US EPA environmental, and recognition of these facts by the German manufacturer.

OCU believes that these pressures and conditions to comply with legislation are unacceptable because compliance with the law and consumer protection should not be negotiable all. Given this kind of pressure the response of the authorities must be rotunda, rejecting the imposition of conditions by who has acknowledged the breach of its obligations. OCU believes that the Volkswagen group must demand the immediate repair of the affected vehicles.

In this sense OCU recalls that still does not have any response from Volkswagen or the question of compensation nor the compensation to consumers and encourages them to join the class action to demand the latter through “Movilízate” http://www.ocu.org/movilizate/mentira-vw
