Meeting with the political party UP&D to discuss the need for more hospital transparency

On 25 November OCU launched a campaign demanding greater transparency from the health authorities regarding the performance results of Spanish hospitals. In OCU we are convinced, because it has been shown to be true, that the comparison between hospitals using standardised and adjusted data promotes an improvement in quality. And when there is quality, complications, the number of days in hospital, readmissions and premature deaths are reduced. Furthermore the use of resources and user satisfaction are improved. Even costs are reduced.

Many of us think this way, including Enrique Normand, a UP&D member of the regional parliament of Madrid, and Alfonso Garrido, head of UP&D’s National Health Group. We met with them yesterday to pool our views on this matter and pass on the details of a campaign to which anyone can join here. It was a very interesting meeting and we expect results soon through a parliamentary initiative by UP&D.
