OCU continues its campaign of lawsuits against companies violating the prohibition against charging any extra fee for credit card payment.
The RDL 8/2014 clearly prohibits all companies from charging consumers a fee or extra cost for paying by card. This prohibition extends to all payments in stores or online and all types of card. The ban is effective from September 1, 2014.
Despite the clarity of the rule, there are many companies that do not comply. OCU has received many complaints from users who have paid surcharges or fees for payment by credit card. This practice is especially prevalent in the airline sector and online travel agents when buying airline tickets.
Given this clear illegality OCU has reported the companies mentioned above to the consumer authorities. In its complaint OCU calls for an end to this practice and a refund to all consumers of the amounts they have been overcharged
