Euro per prescription: OCU demands the return of the improperly charged amount

06 jun. 2014

OCU has asked the Health Departments of the Catalan and Madrid autonomous communities to explain clearly, and in the shortest time possible, how they will proceed to refund the improperly charged amount, according to the rulings of the Constitutional Court.
The improperly charged amount by the so-called euro per prescription is quantified at € 46 million in Catalonia, and € 3.7 million in Madrid.

This controversial measure taken in Catalonia in June 2012 and in Madrid in January 2013, may have affected more than 1,000,000 citizens. Therefore, OCU believes that, following the decisions of the Constitutional Court, the amounts collected during the periods of the validity of what was known as the euro per prescription must be refunded to all concerned.
OCU requires diligence in repaying these amounts. The Organisation asks the administration that the same efforts made to collect this money are made to return it.

OCU will wait until 13 June for the Catalan and Madrid administrations to indicate how they intend to repay these amounts. If within the week we receive no answer or the answer we receive is not satisfactory for consumers, OCU will consider the most appropriate way to defend the rights of citizens violated by an illegal measure.
