OCU and Which? report car rental company abuses to the European Commission

19 jun. 2014

As part of the joint campaign conducted by OCU and the British consumer association Which? against the abusive practices of certain car rental companies, both organisations have approached the Director General of Justice of the European Commission, Mrs. Paraskevi Michou, in order to inform her about this initiative and seek her support for it.

OCU and Which? have informed the Justice Commission of the campaign against abusive practices by car rental companies.
In this letter OCU and Which? brought to the attention of Ms. Michou the three main demands that both organisations make to car rental companies which are that users are only charged  the cost of fuel consumed,  that any extra charges are publicised clearly in their offers and to ensure that they provide adequate fuel prices in line with local prices. In this regard OCU and Which? pointed out the good practices of some of the companies operating in Spain.
Finally, in the letter sent on 19 June, OCU and Which? requested the Commission to support this initiative to get the authorities to end such abuses in the car rental market.
