Law on Improvement in the Food Chain
05 jun. 2013In June OCU learned of the intention of the Ministry of Agriculture to introduce during the parliamentary proceedings of the Law on Food Chain Improvement regulation affecting studies and comparative testing of food products. This regulation was clearly prejudicial to the rights of consumers, since among other things it forced us to communicate the results of the tests performed prior to publication. This is real censorship which would seriously undermine the consumer’s right to information, freedom of expression and the right to communicate truthful information.
OCU approached the Ministry of Agriculture and the different parliamentary groups to request the amendment of the additional provision of this Act so that consumer rights were guaranteed. Finally in the Senate, the first intention of the Government was amended and an amendment was approved limiting the scope of contradictory analysis only in those cases in which a legal breach had previously been detected.
Subsequently rules have been created about this matter.
