Already more than 2,000 signed up to the first collective biomass purchase promoted by OCU
28 oct. 2015Madrid, 28 October, 2015. OCU is promoting the first Collective Purchase of Biomass. Within the European project CLEAR, whose main objective is to bring more efficient technology to all citizens, we launched this collective purchase on September 29 and, so far, more than 2000 people have enrolled.
OCU, alongside other European organisations, is taking part in the CLEAR programme, a programme aimed at promoting energy efficiency among consumers. Its main objective is to promote the development of more efficient technologies that offer benefits for consumers and the environment. During the summer months, the programme’s activities focused on air conditioning, facilitating the purchase of these machines. Now when winter comes, it is focusing its activities on biomass technology, pellet stoves and pellets, the fuel that they use.
Biomass is a solution for heating rooms, easy to install, ecological and with many economic benefits and, sometimes, biomass can become a suitable alternative for heating homes.
OCU has analysed several pellet stoves, the modern equivalent of a traditional firewood stove. We checked out the significant improvements, such as an electrical resistor which facilitates automatic ignition and burning, an adjustable thermostat to control the temperature and switching on and off, or a fan to speed up the diffusion of heat in the room. We also analysed the fuel needed in order to use these stoves, the pellets, very small tubes of compacted wood waste with high heating capacity at very economic prices.
For OCU the main attraction of this technology concerns cost savings and how quickly the investment pays off. For example, an 8.5 kW pellet stove, enough to heat a room of up to 70 square metres and used for about five hours a day represents savings of approximately 40% compared to a similar stove fueled by diesel.
Given the advantages of pellet stoves and the pellet itself, and drawing on our experience of group buying, OCU will carry out a collective purchase of pellets. So far over 2,000 people have joined up to this new form of buying, where it has been shown countless times that when consumers come together we can generate savings and get better prices.
You can sign up through the link: renovamos.org/oferta-biomasa, the enrollment period will remain open until 29 October, after which we will continue negotiating for better prices and in November we will launch the second phase, so that consumers can benefit from the deals we reach.
