Following the Constitutional Court ruling
06 jun. 2014Madrid, June 6.
OCU has approached the Departments of Health of the Catalan and Madrid regions to explain clearly and in shortest time possible, how they will proceed to refund the improperly charged amount, according to the constitutional court’s ruling.
The amount of money charged unduly under the so-called euro per prescription amounts to € 46 million in Catalonia and € 3.7 million in Madrid.
This controversial measure, adopted in Catalonia in June 2012 and in Madrid in January 2013, may have affected more than 1,000,000 citizens. Therefore, OCU believes that, following the decision of the Constitutional Court, the amounts collected during the period of the so-called euro per prescription should be repaid to all concerned.
OCU insists the amounts be repaid diligently. The organization calls on the Administration to make the same efforts in returning this money as were made to collect it.
OCU will wait until 13 June for the Catalan and Madrid administration indicate by what means they intend to repay these amounts. If within the week, there is no answer or the reply is unsatisfactory for consumers, OCU will consider the most appropriate way to defend the rights of citizens violated by an illegal measure.
