OCU supports the request of the CNMC to end vetoes gas stations without workers

25 ago. 2016

In a report on the regulation of the distribution market of motor fuels through service stations called "neglected" the CNMC noted that there are still barriers to the opening of such stations. The most important is the requirement that there be at least one person at the station alluding to possible security problems. This obligation does not correspond to the data and evidence that exist in the European Union and in Spain on this type of petrol stations. The CNMC insists its advantages by promoting increased competition and thus create the possibility for consumers to benefit from better prices on fuel.

In Spain there are examples such as agricultural cooperatives that operate for years with this model and which have not been experienced security problems or incidents to its users.

This business model also has a significant presence in other countries. In France more than 10% of the gas stations are of this type and in Belgium reaches 20%. Even in some countries such as Denmark or Switzerland most of the fuel is served at these stations.

OCU thinks gas stations "neglected" have proven to be one of the few facilitators market phenomena sale of fuel to consumers, leading to price reductions in the areas where they are positioned, as the other stations, especially the more expensive belonging to large companies that dominate the market have to reduce their prices to compete against them.

OCU emphasizes that the alleged defense of employment should not be the excuse of large companies avail themselves to keep an oligopoly in the market with margins higher than in most neighboring countries marketing, pinpointed repeatedly reports the CNMC.
